Kent Search and Rescue is an entirely volunteer organisation.  To keep the organisation running we regularly welcome new members of all ages, abilities, background, and locations.  There are two ways to join KSAR: as an Operational Searcher or a Non-Operational Administrator or Project Leader.

OPERATIONAL: We regularly recruit new prospective search team members who can assist in searching for missing persons.  Being a search team member can be extremely rewarding but also occasionally challenging. Searches occur at odd times and in various weather conditions. Searcher team members have ample opportunity to develop various medical, navigational, and leadership skills that can assist them in their duties as searchers but also in their outside lives.  There are also ample opportunities to become involved in the management and administration of the group in addition to your search team duties. Ultimately, the strength of KSAR owes to the range of skills and abilities that each of our members brings to the group.

To become an operational search team member you must be over 18 years old and have a reasonable level of fitness. Prospective search team members must fill out the KSAR Application Form and also complete and pass an interview, formal police vetting and a confidentiality agreement in order to be accepted as a member. Prospective members must also complete a basic search course and basic first aid qualification prior to being able to attend active searches.

NON-OPERATIONAL: We also regularly recruit new non-operational member who can assist in the administration of the group and management of special projects. Non-operational members do NOT need to actively participate in searching for missing persons. Rather, non-operational members focus primarily upon other tasks that match their particular skill set. For instance, non-operational members could assist in fundraising, public relations/publicity, administrative functions, public education, etc. At the moment we are actively recruiting for the following non-operational volunteer positions.

Grant Writer
Response Vehicle Driver

To become a non-operational member you must fill out the KSAR Application Form. Prospective non-operational members are encouraged to contact KSAR representatives listed to the left to determine the current needs and how we can best utilise your skill set. Depending on the nature of the prospective role non-operational members may also be subject to a CRB check or formal police vetting.

In recruiting for all positions KSAR strictly adheres to our equal opportunities policy.
